Warnock said some of the “salacious” allegations in Hall's declaration have nothing to do with what was being discussed in court Thursday. The lawsuit contends that Hall opened an arbitration process on Nov. 9 against Oates and the other defendants in the lawsuit, Oates’ wife, Aimee Oates, as well as Richard Flynn, in their roles as co-trustees of Oates’ trust. Hall was seeking an order preventing them from selling their part in Whole Oats Enterprises to Primary Wave Music. Primary Wave has already owned “significant interest” in Hall and Oates’ song catalog for more than 15 years. Additionally, Hall said in his declaration he would not approve such a sale and doesn’t agree with Primary Wave’s business model.

The ruling reverses a mid-level appeals court that said Dr. Luke was a private figure subject to a lower burden of proof because he is not a household name. The court also said a state judge should have allowed Kesha to file counterclaims against Dr. Luke for emotional distress, punitive damages and legal fees. Christine Lepera, a lawyer for Dr. Luke, said she was confident that Kesha's counterclaims would ultimately be rejected. Kesha sued the producer and Sony Music in 2014 seeking to get out of a multi-album recording deal, and Dr. Luke counter-sued her for defamation. A New York state judge ruled against Kesha in 2020 and an appeals court upheld that decision in 2021.

Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis was arrested in Italy on Sunday on charges of sexual assault and aggravated personal injury, police said. Priya Chaudhry, an attorney for Haggis, said the Canadian filmmaker was "totally innocent" and was willing to cooperate with authorities. He is totally innocent, and willing to fully cooperate with the authorities so the truth comes out quickly." The woman who accused Haggis will also be questioned ahead of the trial, Negro said. Haggis denied the original allegation and sued the publicist, Haleigh Breest, accusing her of trying to bankrupt him.
